Golf and cricket: the ideal ticketing package

The world champions, Australia, are coming to Scotland for their eagerly-awaited One-Day International against Scotland on Friday August 28, and tickets for the event are on sale from today.

The match, to be played at the Citylets Grange in Edinburgh, will be the second official ODI match between the two countries following their first meeting during the 2007 World Cup. Ricky Ponting and his team will be fresh from their Ashes Test series against England, and will use their match against the Lloyds TSB Scottish Saltires as further preparation ahead of their T20 and ODI series against England.

Tickets for the match are priced at £39 for adults and £25 for concessions.  This price reflects a near 20% reduction on the ticket price for last year’s England match, which attracted a capacity crowd of over 5,500.

Tickets are available from 0844 4811221, or from the SECC ticket office at www.secxtra.com

Cricket Scotland has teamed up with the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles to offer the first 2,000 people who purchase tickets for the match a complementary season ticket to the the Johnnie Walker Championship, which will be played over the the PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles from August 27 to 30.  This package offers sports fans the opportunity to see the world champion Australian cricketers on August 28 in between three days of fantastic golf action.

Roddy Smith, Cricket Scotland chief executive, said: “Hosting Australia for an ODI in Edinburgh will be the undoubted highlight of the Scottish cricketing summer. They will be fresh from their Ashes series and preparing for their T20 and ODI games with England. I am sure the cricketing public will come out in force to see the likes of Ponting, Lee, Hussey, Clarke and Symonds in action.

‘”In light of the economic climate, we have reduced our prices by nearly 20% on last year which, coupled with our innovative partnership with the Johnnie Walker Championship, means that we are offering fans one of the strongest sporting packages ever.”

Graeme Marchbank, Tournament Director of the Johnnie Walker Championship, said: “We know that those who follow golf also enjoy cricket. With these two major sporting events taking place in Scotland over the same period, it made sense for us to work together and offer spectators the opportunity to see both.”
