Lions v Cavaliers at Uddingston in CB40 Warm Up Matches- Game 1

Eariler this week (9 August) a Scotland Lions team sealed a comprehensive victory over a Cavaliers XI at Uddingston’s Bothwell Castle Policies.

The Cavaliers were soon in trouble losing West Pro Colin De Grandhomme, who was six and out in the first over to the bowling of Safyaan Sharif. The Cavaliers batting continued to slump in the face of some very accurate Lions bowling, reaching 48-6 at one stage, before a dogged 24 from Stirling’s Josh Edwards steadied the ship.

A fighting innings of 31 not out from keeper Marc Petrie and a late flourish from Freuchie Pro Junaid Mahsood (19) saw the Cavaliers eventually post a below par score of 126 all out in the 38th over. Pick of the Lions bowlers were Tyler Buchan with 3-16 and Gordon Goudie with 3-21.

The Lions made short work of the meagre total with local boy Calum MacLeod setting about the lively opening attack, bludgeoning the ball to all parts of the ground. He was ably supported by opening partner Ryan Flannigan. MacLeod eventually finished the game in style with a towering six to complete a whirlwind hundred from only 51 balls, including 11 fours and 6 sixes.

The teams do it all again on Thursday, weather permitting, at Uddingston with an 11am start.
