The West finals took place on Sunday 8 August and Ferguslie, Poloc, Stirling County and Uddingston participated with Stirling County booking their place in the final. The East finals scheduled for the following Sunday were washed out and took place the next weekend when Stoneywood-Dyce won through. Arbroath United, Corstorphine and Freuchie were the other quarter-finalists. The final which had been due to take place at Uddingston on 29 August was postponed and took place at Williamfield on 5 September when Stirling County emerged victorious. The man of the match was James Blackburn of Stirling County. Commiseration's must go to Stoneywood-Dyce who travelled the length and breadth of the country this year qualifying for three of the knock-out finals only to loose them all.
For once the weather did not intervene and the quarter finals took place on the due date. The result was that Ferguslie won in the West and Stoneywood-Dyce came out on top in the East. The teams for the second time this year contested a national final which this time took place at Uddingston on Sunday 29 August. The match started at 10.30a.m. in reasonable weather and Ferguslie made 141 for 7 in their 28 overs. Shortly after the start of the Stoneywood-Dyce reply the heavens opened up and play was suspended. Thanks must go to David Duncan of Uddingston for his efforts in getting the ground playable after the rain stopped and the final eventually resumed in late afternoon with Ferguslie, for the second time this year coming out on top, when Stoneywood-Dyce were all out for 84 shortly after 5.30 in the evening. The man of the match award was won by Rajiv Routray (Ferguslie)
The competition also had similar weather problems and the 36 teams who entered are to be thanked for their assistance in reaching the semi-final stage on time. The finals eventually took place on Sunday 11 July with Clydesdale, Grange, Ferguslie and Stoneywood-Dyce reaching the latter stages. Ferguslie met Stoneywood-Dyce in the final with the Paisley side coming out on top.
This year 44 clubs from all over Scotland took part, which was a slight increase on the previous year. As was the case in 1997 & 1998 the weather during May and June was atrocious and it was a struggle to get to the semi-final stage by 21 June. However with the assistance of all clubs we got there only to find the weather winning again and the Finals washed out. Eventually after attempts to play the matches on 28 June and 4 July the Finals took place at Hillhead CC. On Sunday 11 July. Forfarshire, West Lothian, Grange and Clydesdale reached the semi-finals with Clydesdale, winners also in 1998, defeating West Lothian in the final. They went on to represent Scotland in the Regional finals, which this year were held in Edinburgh. However Wigton from Cumbria won through to the national finals.
