Indoor report – Week 7

It was the penultimate round of group games in the Cricket Media 6’s last Friday with Carlton, Penicuik and Fauldhouse hoping to secure a spot on finals night. Last season’s semi finalists Carlton knew that were they to win one game they would be guaranteed to progress.

The question of who would go through was soon decided with Carlton Vs Fauldhouse in the first game of the evening. Carlton batted first and amassed a score of 168 from 10 overs with J Kerr doing the majority of the damage with the bat ably supported by R Thornton and N Martin. Last season’s East league champions struggled to come to terms with the SNCL outfits bowling attack and were all out in the 7th over of their innings for 67.

Fauldhouse played Penicuik in the second game in which Fauldhouse batted first and learned from their mistakes in the first game batting through their overs, McDonald, Law and Mulligan’s contributions set Penicuik the score of 125 runs to win. Penicuik who were always in the chase just ran out of wickets in pursuit of the total and ended up 31 runs short.

So, the final game of the group was contested between Carlton and Penicuick and with the knowledge that the Grange Loan men had qualified they set about dismantling the Penicuik bowling attack batting first and amassing 174 runs in their 10 overs. J Kerr scored a fine half century but the man of the moment was R Thornton who finished with a personal score of 61. Penicuik despite a valiant effort by Hutton and Morton could only reach 117 in reply.

Mr Thornton deserves special mention for his consistent batting throughout the group stages, scoring 169 runs in 4 innings at an average of 42 and currently holds the top individual score(61) which receives a cash prize at the end of the tournament.
