Cricket Scotland announce Women’s and Men’s Regional Series

Cricket Scotland is pleased to announce that the Regional Series for the both the men and women will go ahead this year. The Beyond Boundaries Super Series will help inform selection for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier later this year in the UAE. Additionally, the men’s fixtures will give the selectors a chance to see the players in action running up to selecting the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

The Beyond Boundaries Women’s Super Series will take place over two Saturdays – 23rd July and 6th August – with each day consisting of two T20 fixtures. The Eagles and Stormers will face off against each other once again at Brechin Cricket Club. The series is backed by Beyond Boundaries and Witherby’s.

Peter Ross, Cricket Scotland women’s head coach, said: “We saw last year how important these Super Series matches were in preparation for our international commitments, and my hope would be that there is a similar intensity to the competition this year.

“It allowed the national squad players to get some really competitive cricket under their belt, whilst also allowing those players pushing through the pathway and the top performers in WPL to see the brand of cricket and skills needed to move forward. We were fortunate last year to play on some exceptional grounds that facilitated a great standard of cricket and we are very much looking forward to more of the same at Brechin.

“The Beyond Boundaries Super Series will once again play a key part in the selection process for the important international series and T20 World Cup Qualifier that we have towards the end of the summer. As we continue to develop as a national team and pathway, it is essential that we develop players who are used to delivering these performances and who can transfer that onto the international stage.”

The men’s series will be hosted in September at Clydesdale Cricket Club, with six fixtures over three days in the month before the Men’s T20 World Cup action gets underway. The Caledonian Highlanders, Eastern Knights and Western Warriors will all play four T20s to compete to be crowned T20 Blitz champions.

Toby Bailey, Interim Head of Performance, said: “We are now in a position to announce that the men’s regional series will go ahead as a T20 competition in September. This series will help form part of the selection for the Men’s T20 World Cup as well as form a link from Performance to the Club Cricket.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the best in Scotland to compete against each other and put their hand up for selection at the World Cup. We are delighted to be able to host these fixtures at Clydesdale Cricket Club, an important international ground in Scotland.

“Although we would like to have a broader competition which would include 50 over cricket, we were not able to due to the busy international fixture calendar. We look forward to having a more substantial competition in 2023.”
