Women's Premier League 2018

2018 Season

Congratulations to Edinburgh South/Stewart’s Melville, the 2018 Premier League Champions.

The combined Edinburgh South/Stewart’s Melville team beat George Watson’s College by 6 wickets in their last match to win the 2018 Women’s Premier League.

Royal High Corstorphine finished second after losing to Carlton in their final match of the league.

Edinburgh South’s Paul Reddish refers to it as “probably my proudest moment as an Edinburgh South member.”

Paul says “It was only early last year that we formed our women’s section. We’ve invest time, finance and resource into this section to make it the best it can be as a place for girls and women to want to play cricket.”

“Winning the Women’s Premier League is a fantastic achievement in our first year in the competition. Most pleasingly, it was yet again the youngsters who contributed with Edinburgh South performance squad youngsters Iona Lowry taking 2-7 and Catherine Fraser again taking a wicket with her first ball to restrict the opposition to just 80 odd with the bat.”

“Nine of those who turned out on Sunday were teenagers, which was fairly typical of the make-up of our sides to date. Thanks to Dave Gibson and Stew Mel CC for their equal part in this partnership’s success. Without the partnership, neither of us had the resource independently to enter a WPL team this year. This has given us both a platform to grow from. We are likely to continue this for another year, and hopefully when the time comes, we’ll both have the critical mass to create two competitive teams at this level.”

“A huge thanks to the Edinburgh South coaching team behind the scenes – Katie McGill and Kari Carswell and to the senior players – Hannah Short and Kathryn White who struck the balance really well throughout the season in ensuring our youngsters were given the opportunity to perform. This was highlighted no better than in the final game in which Hannah (undoubtedly one of our best players with bat and ball in the combined squad) neither bowled nor batted to allow the youngsters to take the limelight and see home the victory.”
