2013 Eadie Walls Cup
Moray Cricket Association’s flagship junior event wound up at a sun-soaked if not autumnal Cooper Park in Elgin on Sunday 29th September with Under-12 teams from Elgin, Forres, Huntly, Nairn and Moray Schools Select (one girls and one boys) taking part.
Sunday’s event is the tournaments’ Finals Day. During the season Moray cricket club’s Under-12s teams (including Buckie and Fochabers too) took part in a series of round robin events on a Friday, playing the popular Pairs Kwik Cricket format. This club event is a culmination of the winter, spring and early summer schools coaching across Moray by Community Coach, Neil Nichol, and a small band of club coaches that go into their club’s feeder schools.
On the day Nairn County CC coached by ASDA Volunteer of the Month stalwart Kim Neill, ran out overall winners for the third year but were pipped to the inaugural Fair Play Award by eventual runners-up Moray Elite B.
Many of those taking part will now progress to winter coaching led by Neil Nichol and also at Moray’s Cricket Development Centre at Gordonstoun School. Neil’s 16-week programme is for boys and girls, he will be running sessions as Moray’s link into the North’s new Area Programme and also one of three Under-16 Girls Development Centres that have been set-up in the North.
Building on the success of the Eadie Walls programme and this winter’s indoor coaching their will be a series of indoor tournaments for both boys and girls which will translate into Scotland’s first girls only junior league programme in 2014.
