Warwickshire have signed 21 year-old batsmen Freddie Coleman on a Summer contract following his graduation from the Club’s Academy ranks.

Edinburgh-born Freddie – who is on is also on a retainer contract with Cricket Scotland – is currently studying at Oxford Brooks University and joined the Bears set-up five years ago following a trial with the Club.

Dougie Brown, Director of Cricket at Warwickshire CCC, said: “We’ve got a close relationship with Cricket Scotland and Craig Wright – its Performance Development Manager – suggested that we take a closer look at Freddie because he has many of the attributes to achieve success at the top level; ability, temperament, good team man and he’s prepared to work very hard.

“The pre-season training camp in Barbados is his first tour in the professional ranks, so it’s a great opportunity for him to train with experienced members of the squad and start his journey towards being an accomplished cricketer.”

Freddie has played two First Class Games to date – one for Scotland and one for Oxford MCCU – and two fixtures for Scotland in the CB40 (now Yorkshire Bank 40). Additionally, he represented his home nation in last year’s Under 19 World Cup in Australia.

Freddie said: “With Warwickshire currently the LV= County Champions, it’s obviously a very exciting time to sign my first professional contract and work with the squad in pre-season ahead of our first match against Derbyshire on 10th April.

“Whilst I’m thrilled to progress from the Academy ranks, I’m aware that the hard work really begins now and I’m looking forward to working with the coaching team of Dougie Brown, Graeme Welch and Tony Frost and hopefully contributing to future success at Warwickshire.”
