14 Sep

Cricket Scotland are saddened by the news of the passing of Brian Close, aged 84.

As well as captaining England, Yorkshire and Somerset, Close also filled the position of Scotland Team Manager for their foray into the Benson & Hedges competition.

He was appointed to the role when they entered the competition in 1980, Scotland's first experience of competitive cricket.

In carrying out the role he brought his great experience of county cricket, and his contribution was greatly valued. He also played as a wicket-keeper for a warm-up game for the B&H match against Worcestershire.
