Busy week for the Wildcats

21 Jul

The Wildcats are preparing for a busy week playing four T20 matches in two days, before returning to the 50 over format against Gloucestershire on Sunday (27th July).

The Wildcats are in T20 action against Derbyshire and Leicestershire on Tuesday and Wednesday at Denby CC, where they will face each county twice.  The T20 game will be an excellent warm up for the European Championships that Scotland will compete in later in August.

Captain Abbi Aitken is looking forward to the short break from 50 over cricket, "Our focus is fully on the T20 games, we having been doing well in the 50 over competition so we will be looking to take confidence from those games into these ones.

The four T20s in 2 days will be a challenge, but the girls are really looking forward to it. Our regional competition is all T20 so it's not as if we haven't had any practice. The squad has been looking sharp and our squad of 13 is really up for the challenge".

The Squad return home on Wednesday evening, have a couple of days back at work, before getting back on the road to take on Gloucestershire on Sunday at Frocester CC.  The Wildcats are currently top of Division 3, knowing that two more wins will see them secure promotion to Division 2.

Coach Kari Anderson gave us her thoughts on the busy week ahead, "The team have played exceptionally well so far this season, and they are fully aware that we have a few more challenges ahead before they can relax!

The T20s will be good fun, we have some strong hitters in the team so hopefully they will go out and showcase their skills and the bowlers have been practising hard and have bowled well throughout the season so we will be looking to continue that. The 50 over competition has been going well and we will keep striving to make improvement is the departments where we have maybe let ourselves down on occasions. It's going to be a challenging week, physically and mentally, but I know the girls will be well up for it".

Scotland Squad (in full): Abbi Aitken, Annette Drummond, Charlotte Bascombe, Elizabeth Priddle, Fiona Urquhart, Kari Anderson, Kathryn White, Kirstie Gordon, Lorna Jack, Rachel Scholes (T20 only), Olivia Rae, Nadia Wheeler, Samantha Haggo
