Cricket Scotland marks 100 day countdown to CWC 2015
Scotland’s national cricket team today marked 100 days until the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 (CWC), where they will compete on the world stage in Australia and New Zealand.
This morning (Thursday), Scotland team players Calum Macleod, Richie Berrington and Majid Haq were joined by children from Hutchesons’ Grammar School in Glasgow to mark the 100 day countdown at the Clydesdale Cricket Club. The players also visited George Square in the City Centre.
The CWC starts on 14 February 2015, with Scotland’s group matches being played in New Zealand and Tasmania. Scotland’s first match will take place on 17 February against New Zealand in Dunedin on South Island. The team has been training hard in preparation for what is the second most popular single-sport world cup, with a recent tour in Australia and New Zealand, and an upcoming training tour to Dubai.
Richie Berrington said: “We’re thrilled to have qualified for the Cricket World Cup and are mentally and physically preparing for what we know will be a tough competition against some of the finest cricketers in the world. To compete on the world stage representing our country is a huge honour, and we will bring our very best. Today we’re marking the countdown to the start of the competition – we have 100 days of training and preparation left, and we’re raring to go.”
12 year old cricket fan Struan Walker from Glasgow said: “We’re excited about watching Scotland playing in the Cricket World Cup, we wish them lots of luck. I love cricket, I play every weekend all summer long and at school, and it’s great to meet three of the players who will be playing for their country in Australia and New Zealand next February.”
