Cricket Scotland Patron, WG Baxter CBE DL
It is with great regret and sadness that we record Cricket Scotland Patron, Mr WG Baxter CBE DL has passed away peacefully at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary late on Friday 22 February 2013.
Gordon Baxter, who was instrumental in expanding the family company, Baxters, from a small family business to a global brand, was a strong supporter of Scottish cricket throughout his life and was honoured with Cricket Scotland Patronage in 2006. He was influential in brokering a number of sponsorship deals for the governing body over the years.
An active MCC member, he followed both Scotland and England on overseas tours, while he will be greatly missed by his beloved Fochabers Cricket Club.
Cricket Scotland Chief Executive, Roddy Smith, commented on the news, ‘Gordon was a fantastic character and a hugely respected Honorary Patron of Cricket Scotland. He absolutely loved our great game and liked nothing better than discussing cricket, whether it be about his much-loved Fochabers, his many trips around the world watching England, his friendships with the likes of Allan Lamb and Ian Botham or the development of the game. He will be sadly missed by us all at Cricket Scotland and the wider cricketing community throughout Scotland.’’
A private funeral is being arranged by the family with a memorial service to follow in due course.
