CS Staff visit DIR Project
Members of Cricket Scotland’s coaching staff took a bit of time away from cricket to spend Saturday morning with Dr Fredrick Shaw and his organisation DIR – Developing Indigenous Resources.
Working with residents in economically poor communities, DIR builds knowledge and skills to help all citizens achieve a level of health that empowers them to participate fully in social and economic development.
It was a truly fascinating morning with the first stop being the local community centre which provides education and also vaccinations to the local community.
After being shown around the facility Dr Shaw explained some of the changes the project had made over the past few years to the local area, like turning open sewers into fully paved roads.
The morning then concluded with each member of staff being taken into some of the houses of the local residents, which was a truly eye opening experience.
Scotland coach Grant Bradburn reflected on the day, “It was a real treat for us, and a massive privilege for us to have a guided tour of the village and was hugely humbling experience to see parts of Punjab that most people perhaps don’t get to see.”It was really respectful and fantastic to see the work that is getting done there."
Members of the Scotland squad made a personal donation of around 40,000 Rs to Dr Shaw to help to continue the excellent work in the community.
