CSL 40 Final Preview
This Sunday, Ferguslie and East Kilbride will take a trip to the "tail of the bank" and face each other for the second time in two days as they face-off in the inaugural CSL40 Cup Final.
The clubs meet on Saturday in a CSL Western First Division league decider so the clash on Sunday is certain to have a little spice added whatever happens at Torrance House.
Glenpark will be the venue for the competition which was designed to provide simple, straightforward, old fashioned cricket with minimal field restrictions and a "turn up and play" ethos. The format has proved extremely popular and innovative for a generation of cricketers brought up with fielding circles ingrained on their outfields.
Indeed, the simple rules even attracted the attention of Sky Sports, which featured the group clash between Clydesdale and Ferguslie on their Club Life spot during the Ashes coverage this summer. The highly charged match provided some excellent television and piqued the interest of David Gower, Sir Ian Botham and David Lloyd who debated not only the intense rivalry but the attraction of a clean, uncluttered set of playing conditions.
The match will start at noon and the umpires will be Jim McClymont and Mike Nash. Peter Hempsey of Greenock CC and a member of the WDCU CMC will present the trophy after what should be a particularly exciting climax to the WDCU season.
