Forth Road Bridge Walk
Scotland women’s Under 19 Development squad are setting out to raise funds, starting with a sponsored walk over the famous Forth Road Bridge on Sunday 28th October, starting at 11am.
With summer a distant memory and the preparation for winter well underway, the Development squad will be striding across the bridge in full whites, pads, helmets and bats in their quest to raise the funds to enable them to compete in the U19 ARCH Trophy in Abu Dhabi in February 2013.
Speaking ahead of the event Cricket Scotland Women’s Development Manager, Kari Carswell said, “This particular walk is one of many fundraising activities we have planned to make this trip happen. The girls are all really excited about the trip, and it’s an invitation that we accepted on the basis of getting to play some high quality pre-season cricket.“
Although the squad will prominently be under 19, four over-age players are able to participate and will offer guidance as the next generation of Wildcat’s gain valuable experience in a new environment for most of the women.
This walk will be the first of many fundraising events; other planned activities include a Ceilidh and a race night.
Wildcat’s captain, Abbi Aitken, will be in attendance on Sunday and will be joined by Leigh Kasperek, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player during the European T20 Qualifiers in August 2012.
The girls are also selling bands at £2 each and are planning a cricket bat relay that will see a bat being carried around the country taking in all the girls’ local clubs.
