Girls U16 RDC (West) have their first session

23 Feb

The newly-formed Girl’s U16 Regional Development Centre (West) had its first session on Sunday 21st February 2016, at Hutchesons’ Grammar School, in Glasgow.

The one and half hour skill development session, which was led by Cricket Scotland’s Women’s Cricket Manager, Kari Carswell, saw the girls take part in a range of batting, bowling and fielding activities – all with the aim of enhancing existing skills and learning some new skills too.

There were 11 attendees, from five different West Region clubs (Clydesdale CC, Dumfries CC, East Renfrewshire CC, Galloway CC and Greenock CC), at the session which was supported by four different coaches.

An enthused Kari Carswell commented: “The skills on show were very encouraging and thanks must go to all those (parents / guardians / club coaches) who made sure all the girls were able to attend the session.  I hope the session will act as a catalyst for a further increase in the number of girls participating in the sport at both a club, and a regional, level.”

Reflecting on the session, West Regional Participation Manager, Tim Hart, said: “It was great see the enthusiasm of the girls who attended on Sunday.  It was also great to see the hall so busy – with the new Girls’ Development Centre session and the boys’ Development Squad session running side-by-side.”

There are two further sessions for the girls this winter – on Sunday 13th March and Sunday 24th April.  Any girls who are interested are welcome to come and join the sessions.  Anyone wishing further information about the sessions should contact Kari Carswell: karicarswell@cricketscotland.com or 07891-408915.
