Grange win 2016 Murgitroyd T20 Final

01 Aug

Grange CC lifted their third Murgitroyd T20 title in four years on Sunday 31 July at Shawholm after sealing a convincing win over Aberdeenshire CC at Shawholm.

An early blitz of 62 from a mere 24 deliveries by Gordon Goudie in the show-piece final gave the Edinburgh side the perfect start in their quest for silverware against the 'Shire-men.

Together with Ryan Flannigan (34), the pair added 83 from just 45 deliveries in an explosive opening stand.

Scotland captain Preston Mommsen added 17, but it was the innings of Andrew Brock with 48 that would help propel Grange to an enormous score.

Tom Foulds (19) and Scott Blain (15) hurried at the end of the innings setting the men from the north 214 to win.

Aberdeenshire’s reply stuttered as Goudie took the big wicket of Chris Venske with his first delivery, caught behind by Alex Baum.

Martin top-scored with 24 but steady wickets ensured they be all out for 85, Brock taking 3/16 and Andrew Appleton 3/11 to secure the trophy.

Grange had originally booked their berth in the final with a strong performance against East Kilbride.  The winners of the Rowan Cup recovered from 44/8 to 85 all out, following a 16-ball 30 from their number 11 batsman M Khan.

Mommsen led the chase with an unbeaten 43 to reach the target in the 19th over.

In the second semi-final Aberdeenshire defeated south regional winners Dumfries, chasing down 102 thanks to 39 from Graeme Tomlinson and 23 from Calum Martin in 17.3 overs.

Cricket Scotland would like to thank Poloc CC for their hosting of an excellent Finals day and the ground staff for their endeavours.
