Highlanders stroll to NSPS T20 win

13 May

The Highlanders took the bragging rights in the first all-Scottish clash of the 2014 North Sea Pro Series with a seven wicket win over the Reivers in Arbroath on Monday.

The Reivers won the toss and chose to bat but the Highlanders never allowed them to gain any momentum. Opening bowlers Gosain and Evans kept the run rate low and were backed up well in the field, making the Reivers top order work hard for any runs. Boundaries were few and far between with only five in the whole innings as only four batsmen made double figures, with the top score being only 15. The middle order tried to repair the damage as the Reivers limped through the 20 overs with just 82 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

The lowly target proved sufficient ammunition for the Highlanders batsmen to come out firing with George Munsey hitting 29 runs from just 12 balls before being caught off the bowling of Con de Lange. Even with an early wicket from Wardlaw, who had Gardiner caught behind for a golden duck, the game was over in a flash. Leask continued his fine form with the bat as he hit 44 runs from just 23 balls which included four sixes. The result was an early finish and just 7.5 overs were required to chase down the target. Not content with stealing headlines for his batting in the past week, Leask also took 3-19 from four overs.
