Knights seal CS ProSeries Double
John Blain’s Eastern Knight’s have been celebrating again after completing the Scottish big-stage double.
They snuffed out the challenge of the Western Warriors at Titwood to add the T20 Blitz crown to the 50-over Regional Pro Series title they had captured earlier in the week.
Sporting all-rounder Hugo Southwell emerged as the batting hero for the Knights - enhancing his credentials for potentially becoming the first player to represent the country at cricket and rugby since Stuart Moffat.
The ex-Edinburgh and Wasps utility back smashed a brisk unbeaten 68 to propel the visitors to 157 for three.
He combined with Preston Mommsen (25 not out) to add 66 in a frantic final five overs.
Warriors then crumbled when it mattered most and surrendered their last six wickets for only 23 runs to be dismissed for 117.
Coach Blain will now be looking for his troops to finish with a flourish when they complete their short-game campaign against the Caley Highlanders at Raeburn Place next Wednesday.
They also face the same opponents at the Grange on July 10 to bring the curtain down on their Pro Series exploits.
Blain’s boys made sure of winning that competition on Sunday when their Titwood clash with the Warriors was abandoned because of rain.
