Machan extends Sussex stay
Scotland batsman Matt Machan has signed a new two-year contract with his county Sussex, which will keep the top-order batsman at the Hove ground until at least the end of the 2015 season.
Machan has made his way through the Sussex youth system and has been part of the set up since representing the county at U13 level.
He made his full Scotland debut earlier in 2013 in the World Cricket League matches in Sharjah against Afghanistan, making 44 on debut.
He followed it up with a sparkling century against Kenya, scoring 114 in a Scotland victory at Mannofield in June. The 22 year-old was named as part of the squad traveling to the ICC Twenty20 Qualifiers in the UAE next month.
Machan said of his new deal, “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with Sussex. After having a breakthrough season this year, there was only one place that I could see me playing my cricket over the next couple of years.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me to get to where I am now and I will continue to work hard to achieve my current and future goals.”
Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said, “Matt had an outstanding year in all forms of the game and we are all excited about the prospect of him building on his successes of last season.”
He has since gone on to make an impact in all three formats for Sussex and scored his maiden first-class century this season in the victory over Somerset at Taunton in July. He averaged 64.25 in the Yorkshire Bank 40 whilst also averaging over 30 in the Friends Life t20.
