Saltires head to Hampshire
The Scottish Saltires squad to compete in the first 2013 Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture against Hampshire on Sunday 5 May has been announced.
Gordon Drummond is included after relinquishing his position as national captain on Thursday, reiterating his burning desire to remain part of the squad.
Preston Mommsen will fill in as captain of the side in the interim until a permanent successor to Drummond is appointed.
After playing against each other mid- week for their respective University sides both Paddy Sadler and Matthew Cross are named in the squad for the first time.
Ewan Chalmers is now available after finishing his University commitments and will be alongside Freddie Coleman, who scored heavily against the Scotland A team for Warwickshire 2nd team last week.
Matt Machan may become available for selection although this will be dependent on whether he is included as a member of the Sussex squad for their YB40 match.
Calvin Burnett and Michael Leask have also received the call up after they impressed the selectors in the recent matches against Durham 2nd XI earlier in the week.
Scottish Saltires squad
Preston Mommsen (captain), Richie Berrington, Calvin Burnett, Ewan Chalmers, Freddie Coleman, Matthew Cross (wicketkeeper) , Gordon Drummond, Gordon Goudie, Majid Haq, Moneeb Iqbal, Michael Leask, Calum MacLeod, Paddy Sadler.
It has also been decided that international caps will not be awarded for Saltires matches in this year’s YB40 competition. This has been done to clearly differentiate between the Saltires’ participation in the ECB domestic competition and the increasing amount of one day international cricket being played by the Scotland national team.
