Scotland and Kenya squads announced

24 Jun

The Scotland selectors today named their squads for the series against Kenya in the up-coming World Cricket League, Intercontinental Cup and T20 matches at Mannofield in Aberdeen.

The first two World Cricket League matches are vitally important if Scotland is to continue its challenge for one of the two automatic qualifying spots for the 2015 World Cup in Australia.

The only change in personnel for the Scots from their previous WCL match against Afghanistan in March is the inclusion of Freddie Coleman. The 21 year old batsman has earned his place in the squad following a number of impressive performances in the Yorkshire Bank 40 for the Scottish Saltires.

Kyle Coetzer will captain the side with the aim of replicating the run scoring he has been enjoying with his county Northants. Coetzer recently amassed an incredible 219 runs against Leicestershire in the County Championship at Grace Road to achieve the accolade of the highest first class score by a Scot.

Majid Haq will take the field for the first time after becoming Scotland’s leading One Day International wicket-taker after passing former Scotland seamer John Blain’s record of 41 wickets.

Following the WCL matches there will be two Twenty20 matches which count towards the ICC T20 rankings, the squads for these encounters are still to be confirmed.

The Intercontinental Cup squad features seamers Alasdair Evans and Dewald Nel, while there is also a spot for Craig Wallace who has impressed for Durham 2XI recently.

All the matches in this series will be completely free of entrance charges.
