Scotland win second tour match

05 Jan

Scotland 315/8 (50 overs) Coleman 108, Iqbal 78, Leask 40, beat Canterbury Country 218 all out, Wardlaw 3/32, Sharif 2/24 by 97 runs.

Scotland secured their second consecutive victory on their World Cup Qualifying tour of New Zealand during a practice match in Christchurch at the Mainpower Oval against Christchurch Country.

Scotland batted first and at one stage found themselves teetering on 35 for 4, but a partnership of 155 between Freddie Coleman and Moneeb Iqbal led the recovery.

Coleman eventually finished on 108 from 114 balls, and together with a quick-fire 40 by Michael Leask, ensured the innings would finish on 315 for 8.

Iain Wardlaw again showed how he is adapting well to the New Zealand conditions during the Canterbury innings with 3 wickets for 32 runs, while Safyaan Sharif, Matt Machan and Gordon Drummond all claimed two wickets.

A disciplined bowling display by Scotland kept the Canterbury Country innings in check, with the hosts finishing 97 runs short of the total.
