Scotland XI come up short against Dragons

29 Oct

After the agonising one-run defeat on Friday, the Scots were hoping to bounce back and for most of the match it looked like they would do exactly that.

The Dragons batted well to compile 160, with Matt Machan again proving his credentials as a bowler taking 2-26. The spin combination of Michal Leask (2-21) and Majid Haq (1-18) also caused the Dragons batsmen a few problems.

The match went down to the final over with Preston Mommsen and Majid Haq hoping to score the 12 runs required for victory, but the pair could only manage 8 runs to give the Dragons another win – this time by 4 runs. Josh Davey and Machan then showed what they were capable of with the bat, the Sussex-man scoring 54 runs from 45 balls, although his half century along with Davey’s 41 off 37 couldn’t get the Scots over the finish line.

The Scotland XI will now complete their tour with two 50-over fixtures against the Highveld Lions (31 Oct, 4 Nov) and x2 T20 matches against the Combined XI on Friday.
