It was another successful week for a number of Scotland players involved in county action down south. Now in the middle of the summer, several players returned to their, buoyed by a successful series of World Cricket League matches against Kenya.
Kyle Coetzer continued his rich vein of form in the Friends Life T20 competition for Northants against Warwickshire on the 5 July, and again against Somerset on 7th.
He struck a total of 103 runs over the two games, including an impressive 71 not out against Warwickshire, which included 7 boundaries, to help high-flying Northants to another win.
Fellow batsman Matt Machan also continued to impress after recording his maiden ODI century for Scotland and was named as Cricket World Player of the Week.
He featured for Sussex in their County Championship Division 1 match against Somerset.
Batting at number 4, Machan showed experience beyond his years to record his maiden first-class century.
He and Michael Yardy put on a partnership worth over 250 on day 2 of the game to help Sussex towards an overall total of 363 – and a win in just 3 days.
Coetzer’s Northants compatriot David Murphy, who struck the winning runs during the second WCL qualifiers against Kenya, also looked in good touch as he contributed 30 runs batting at number 9 in the first innings of Northants current first-class match against Lancashire. Currently fielding, he has so far claimed 2 catches.
