Scotwatch | Scots in Pre-Season Action
Scotland batsman Matthew Cross has continued his good form with the bat and gloves after helping Scotland qualify for the 2015 World Cup over the winter.
He is currently on pre-season tour with Nottinghamshire CCC in Barbados, where Notts are playing a number of matches in T20 and 2-day formats against other Counties, namely Warwickshire, Northants and Hampshire plus two top local teams, Barbados and the University of the West Indies.
Cross opened the batting for Notts in the Barbados Cup T20 tournament. His partnership with Chris Read helped Notts to get off to a good start in their run chase against Warwickshire, with Notts winning by 7 wickets in just 16.5 overs.
In the Cup final, Notts lost the toss and were put in to bat by Northants in very difficult, rain-affected conditions. Cross and Read again opened the batting and helped Notts to post a total of 107 for 3 off 18 overs.
Cross also kept wicket for Notts, and a strong bowling and fielding performance by the Outlaws team restricted Northants to just 104 for 7 off their 18 overs. So Notts won the Cup final by just a few runs and will return to the Caribbean to defend their title next March.
Scotland Captain Kyle Coetzer is also recovering well from the wrist injury that kept him out of the majority of Scotland’s World Cup Qualifying campaign. The top order batsman said, “It seems all ok again, I’ve been batting a bit and it feels good, which is a relief.
Meanwhile, Matt Machan is heading to Dubai with Sussex who will be competing in the Emirates T20 Cup in action pre-season action against Lancashire and an MCC team which will feature some star-studded names. The tournament will take place on Friday the 21st of March.
