Stirling CC to Host Scottish Cup and CS Trophy Final
Cricket Scotland has today announced Stirling County CC as the venue for the final of the Scottish Cup and Cricket Scotland Trophy in 2013.
The two finals will take place on Sunday 25 August 2013 at the same venue, utilising Stirling’s two excellent pitches. The reserve date has been confirmed as 1 September 2013.
Stirling CC moved from their original home Williamfield to the new facility called New Williamfield in 2005.
For those unfamiliar to the ground it currently has two full size ovals separated by a sloping bank with a modern clubhouse and picturesque views of the Wallace Monument.
Since acquiring the new facility, New Williamfield has played host to the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers in 2010 and an Under 15 International event in 2011, with the club hoping to host more representative use of the facilities as the ground matures.
Jon Taylor who is the club spokesman at Stirling CC said on the announcement, "The club are delighted to be given the opportunity to host two of the biggest club matches in Cricket Scotland's calendar. Having held previous tournament matches and smaller cup finals the club is looking forward to the challenge of hosting both matches on the same day, a first for any club in Scotland. We are hoping for a bumper crowd, fine weather on the day and the chance to further enhance our relationship with Cricket Scotland”.
Cricket Scotland Chief Executive, Roddy Smith added,” It should be a great occasion with the two finals on the same day. The fantastic facilities at Stirling CC will allow the supporters of all 4 clubs the opportunity to witness a couple of exciting encounters and be well accommodated at New Williamfield.
