U15s keep winning the ECB County Cup
Scotland U15 v Cumbria at Hamilton Crescent on Wednesday 30th July 2014
Scotland’s winning run continued thanks to the batting efforts of two players who, up to now, have had limited opportunities to shine.
Electing to bat on a flat wicket Scotland started skittishly and following four loose dismissals were perched precariously at 63 for 4 when Will Hardie joined Callum Garden at the crease.
That pair painstakingly forged an obdurate partnership of 119 which was high on application at the outset and then blossomed into fluency. When Garden fell for 55 Kaleem Barreto joined Hardie and gave impetus to the innings with an adventurous 21 off 15 balls which inspired his partner to press the accelerator to be the last man out for 72.
The target of 270 to win proved way beyond Cumbria who batted poorly to end on 80 for 9 off 28.2 overs when rain caused the match to be abandoned with the home side victorious by virtue of a far superior runs per over rate.
The Scots bowlers all delivered accurately but the pick was Andrew Appleton’s left armers which returned 5 wickets for 19 runs.
