VisitScotland Lends Support to ICC Conference
The International Cricket Council (ICC) will hold a number important meetings in Edinburgh at the start of next week, brining representatives from around 50 nations to the capital of Scotland.
The debates and discussions held during the week will help with critical decisions on developing the future of the sport around the world.
Both VisitScotland and sportscotland have kindly lent their support ahead of the series of debates and discussions to shape the future landscape of the game at a global level.
Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, said: “Working with Cricket Scotland, we are thrilled to help bring the ICC conference to Scotland for the very first time through the VisitScotland Conference Bid Fund. This highly prestigious event follows hot on the heels of Scotland's participation in the ICC World Twenty20, in India, and this conference will not only help to raise the profile of cricket in this country, but will also further cement our reputation as a world-class destination for all manner of business events.”
Stewart Harris, Chief Executive of sportscotland, said: “It is terrific that the ICC is holding its June Annual Conference for the first time in Scotland. Cricket is popular in Scotland and events such as these can only help the sport grow by raising its profile further.
“There is no doubt that cricket received a boost in this country with the men’s Scotland teams qualifying for and competing at last year’s World Cup in New Zealand and the recent World Twenty20 in India. It is testament to the good work of Cricket Scotland that the international governing body is holding its week-long Annual Conference in Edinburgh.”
The Scottish Government have also welcomed the event to Scotland with a well-supported motion from Holyrood.
