Wallace replaces Mommsen in T20 squad
Cricket Scotland has announced that Scotland vice-captain Preston Mommsen has been ruled out of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers in Dubai with a pelvis injury.
Mommsen will be replaced by middle order batsman Craig Wallace, who was a member of Scotland’s last T20 Qualifying campaign in 2012.
On news of the injury to Mommsen Scotland coach Pete Steindl said, “It’s a disappointment to lose a player of Preston’s calibre. Not only has he been a consistent performer for Scotland in recent times, but also been one of our leaders.
However we are looking forward to having Craig as part of the squad. He has worked hard over the last 12 months and has improved as a batsman. He is a good fit to replace Preston.”
The squad will depart for a 12 day pre-tournament tour of Sri Lanka next Sunday before taking on the USA and Namibia in two warm up fixtures in the UAE on 12-14 November.
They will then begin their quest to reach the 2014 Twenty20 World Cup, opening their Group B fixtures against Bermuda on November 15.
