Wildcats announce squad for double-header

29 Apr

The Scotland Wildcats start their 50 over Royal London Women’s One Day Championship this weekend when they travel to play Norfolk and Northamptonshire.

On Sunday the Wildcats will play Norfolk at Fakenham Cricket Club and then travel north to play Northamptonshire at Wellingborough Town Cricket Club.

The new season will see Steve Knox take the reins from Kari Anderson (Carswell) as Head Coach, with Kari opting to concentrate on her playing career.

The squad will feature eight national players who competed for their country in the ICC World T20 Qualifiers in Thailand in 2015.

Ahead of the double header at the weekend captain Abbi Aitken said, “With Steve Knox coming in as head coach it gives all the women in the squad a good opportunity to show what they have to offer.  We had a successful regional match last weekend and the squad are really looking forward to starting the season off well.

A few of our girls spent time abroad this winter and we are all keen to see them back in a Scotland shirt.  With a busy cricketing schedule this summer, I know the girls are eager to get the season underway.

We have a few players unavailable for selection this weekend, but I believe we are taking a very capable and well prepared squad down south for our opening fixtures.”
