Wildcats Name Squad for Season-Opener
The Wildcats will travel to Wales and Staffordshire in the opening round of the 2015 Royal London Women’s County Championship.
The team get their 2015 season underway this weekend in with back-to-back matches against Wales on Sunday and Staffordshire on Monday.
Captain Abbi Aitken will lead the side and look to build upon the successes of 2014, having topped division three and secured promotion to the second tier, “After a busy and productive winter, the squad and I are extremely excited to compete in our first ECB fixtures this weekend.
“We are well aware of the fact that after securing promotion last year we will be facing tougher competition and improve standards against teams that we may know little about. We have a determined squad who are consistently improving and now it’s time to put all our hard work and efforts over the off season into practice.”
Head coach Kari Carswell is relishing the fresh challenge, “playing in division 2 will set us different challenges as a group and we are all really looking forward to it. We welcome back Rach, Ollie and Sam who wintered in New Zealand, Ruth who is back after missing much of last year due to work commitments and also welcome two new faces in Alice and Katie.
“We have quite a few girls who played a lot last season and their experience will be crucial in making sure we start the season well. There is no doubt it will be a step up but the winter training programme will have helped the girls in prepare in the best possible way. It’s a long season ahead but one we are all looking forward to. I’m not sure any of us are looking forward to driving up and down the M6 though!”
