Women's Regional T20 - Strathmore CC

27 Jun

Strathmore Cricket Club were hosts for the first and only round of T20 fixtures in the 2016 Regional Competition on Sunday 19th June, with 2 back-to-back fixtures planned.  The rest of Scotland were looking for their first victory over the East, the East have won both 50 over games to date.

In game 1, Rest of Scotland captain Abbi Aitken won the toss and elected to bowl first.  The Rest got the breakthrough when Ollie Rae was run by Samantha Haggo with score on 15.  This brought together the Bryce sisters, Sarah and Kathryn and then put on a 44 run partnership before S. Bryce was out for 31 and K. Bryce soon followed leaving the East on 71-3.  A late flurry of runs saw the East finish on 86-4.  Jess Mills picking up 2-18.  The Rest of Scotland suffered an early setback in their chase when Rachel Scholes was bowled by Caitlin Ormistion with the score on 5.  Wickets fell at regular intervals for the Rest and they reached 75/9 after their 20 overs.  An accurate spell by U17 player Lucy Bennett stopped the Rest in their tracks as she picked up 3 wickets for 4 runs in a 3 over spell.

In game 2, East of Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce won the toss and elected to bowl first.  The Rest batting lined up scrambled to 83 all out with 2 balls in the innings remaining.  Rachel Scholes top scored with 16 and a healthy contribution by extras allowed the Rest to post a competitive total.  The East batting line up would have gone into the chase with plenty of confidence having posted a similar score in game 1, but when Mills picked up 3 wickets for 10 runs it left the East 16 runs short at the end of their 20 overs.

The T20 series is shared between the 2 teams for te 2016 season.  The final 50 over game of the season will take place on the 21st August at Doo’cot Park, Perth.
