Yorkshire CC

Stumps Day 1: Scotland A 239ao (71.5 overs) Gardiner 84, Mommsen 64, Leask 54, Rhodes 11-3-36-4, Yorkshire 2XI 46/2.

Play didn’t manage to get underway until 1:45pm on the first day of the three day match between Scotland A and Yorkshire 2XI, after rain delayed the start time at North Marine Road in Scarborough.

Scotland won the toss and elected to bat first, and lost Matthew Parker early on in the Scotland A innings after being run out at the non-strikers end.

Carlton’s Hamish Gardiner made his way to 50, and together with captain Preston Mommsen, took the score to 82/1.

Mommsen ensured he would reach a half century to take the score past 100, before he was well caught at point for 63. Iqbal quickly followed his captain back to the pavilion with the board showing 163/3.

Gardiner was bowled 16 runs short of his century after facing 153 deliveries. Michael Leask continued the attack, striking a quick half-century, before being halted by England U19 star, Will Rhodes, who took three quick wickets to help dismiss Scotland A for 239.

Iain Wardlaw, returning to face his former club, claimed a wicket, as did Alasdair Evans, before the end of play to leave the hosts 193 runs behind with 8 wickets left at the end of the first day.
