Welcome to the Cricket Scotland Skills Awards. This programme is a collection of cricket skill based challenges that can be run at school or club aiming to develop the fundamental technical aspects of the sport.
The objectives of the programme are to:
- To introduce children to the fundamental skills of cricket
- To have fun and provide the opportunity to acquire an interest in the game through the development of a range of basic cricket skills
- To test these skills and acknowledge competence levels with appropriate awards
- To promote physical activity, foster an understanding and enjoyment of cricket and encourage children to continue to participate in the game
The Skills Awards have been designed to be easy to use and each test has a work card and video which provide a simple explanation allowing coaches and teachers to understand how to deliver them.
The 10 awards cover the basic key technical aspects of cricket and will assist in developing the standard of junior players.
The programme can be used in several ways however we suggest using it at the beginning, and at the end, of a block of training. By doing this it allows players and coaches the chance to identify strengths and development areas and also monitor player progress.
The Skills Awards allow for a celebration of player achievement! Each card has an explanation of the test, a diagram of the test, how to score the test, as well as some coach aids that can help support improvements in technique.
On the completion of a Skills Award the cricketers score is entered into the scoresheet provided and they are then awarded their certificate in accordance with the level they have achieved for their age.
