Ireland enjoyed the better of day 2 in their ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Scotland at Dubai International Stadium on Thursday (30 November).

The Scottish openers Kyle Coetzer and George Munsey continued where they left off last night, taking their side to 55 before the Scotland captain cut a Rankin delivery to point for 22.

Munsey top-scored with 38 but was dismissed 10 runs later as he pulled the ball to Peter Chase at square-leg before the Scottish innings unravelled.

Wickets began to tumble with six batters unable to reach double figures as O’Brein (3/14) Rankin (4/45) and Tim Murtagh (2/24) took Ireland towards the first innings points.

Safyaan Sharif hung around with 26 but the Scots were to be dismissed for 141 before lunch – 110 runs behind the Irish first innings.

The Irish lead would continue to grow during the afternoon and evening sessions, despite Sharif removing the dangerous Paul Stirling in the 5th over.

Wilson made 56 following 29 from captain William Porterfield, while Simi Singh (34*) and Kevin O’Brien (13*) ensured Ireland would hold a lead of 296, with 5 wickets remaining at the end of play.

The wickets were shared around as Sharif, Sole, Whittingham and Watt all claimed a scalp.

Scotland’s batters will look to right a few wrongs when they have their second opportunity to bat again as Ireland look to claim full points.

Day 3 will commence at 9:30 local (5:30am GMT) tomorrow.
