Scotland will play either Zimbabwe or England on Sunday in Kimberley for the 11th and 12th placed play-off thanks to a 97-run DLS defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka.
Losing the toss and being asked to field first, Sri Lanka posted a respectable 277 at North West University Oval with Nipun Dhananjaya Perera (66), Ahan Sanchitha (59) and Navod Paranavithana (54) registering half-centuries.
Charlie Peet (2/44) and Jasper Davidson (2/31) took two wickets a-piece to restrict the Full Member nation as they looked on course for a 300+ score.
With 278 runs needed to win, Uzzair Shah (17) and Ben Davidson (18) combined for a 35-run stand at the top of the order to get Scotland off to a composed start before the latter fell to Dilshan Madushanka (2/26).
Tom Mackintosh (4) and Uzzair Shah both fell inside 10 overs, before Angus Guy (31) and Ben Davidson (20) put on a 42-run stand to steady the run chase and take the Scots to 95/4 in the 26th over.
Scotland then lost 4 wickets for 45 runs before the lightning hit North West University Oval, with Chamidu Wijesinghe taking 3/31 by the time the weather hit.
With umpires deciding no further play was possible, Scotland ended their innings on 149/8.
Scotland will play either England or Zimbabwe on Sunday, with the opposition to be decided after the two teams meet tomorrow.
