SCOTLAND SQUAD ANNOUCED FOR EMERGING NATIONS TROPHY

SCOTLAND SQUAD ANNOUCED FOR EMERGING NATIONS TROPHY

Scotland's squad for November's ICC Emerging Nations Trophy includes twelve players who featured at this summer's ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

Kathryn Bryce returns to captain the fourteen-strong squad while Chloe Abel, Priyanaz Chatterji, Kirstie Gordon and Hannah Rainey are also involved after they all missed the recent home series against Netherlands.

Isabella Watson, who was called up for the first time for that series, retains her place and is the one uncapped player in the squad. Several other players were considered for selection but were unavailable due to injury or personal circumstances.

The ICC Emerging Nations Trophy will take place from 12-25 November in Ajman, UAE. Scotland will face Sri Lanka, Ireland, USA and Papua New Guinea in Group A, with the top three teams progressing to the Super Six stage.

Steve Snell, Cricket Scotland Head of Performance, said:

“We’re really excited about the squad we’ve selected and the opportunities this tournament will provide. It’s an important part of our preparation and planning towards qualification for the 2028 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Pakistan, and a fantastic opportunity to build on some of the really encouraging performances we saw at this summer’s World Cup.

“It’s particularly pleasing to see Nayma Sheikh included following her excellent performances in regional cricket this summer. Nayma provides a valuable spin-bowling option alongside her batting capabilities and thoroughly deserves this opportunity.

“We’re also delighted to have Isabella Watson involved on her first senior international tour. Isabella has impressed during the summer in Under-19 and regional cricket, earning her first callup for the series against the Netherlands. Although she’s yet to make her debut, this is another exciting opportunity for her to gain experience in the senior international environment.

“There’s an excellent overall strength and balance to the squad and we’re looking forward to testing ourselves against some strong opposition, including two sides we met recently at the World Cup in Ireland and Sri Lanka. The players and staff have been preparing extremely hard, and this tournament provides a valuable opportunity to continue our development as a team.”
