STEWART'S MELVILLE WIN WOMEN'S T20 SCOTTISH CUP

Stewart's Melville are the Women's T20 Scottish Cup winners, in partnership with Beyond Boundaries, for a second consecutive year after a dominant showing at Finals Day.

 

Stewart's Melville defeated Watsonian/Dumfries by 10 wickets in the final, Mariam Akram (3-18) and Faatima Gardee (3-12) taking three wickets each as the league winners were bowled out for 66 - Lucy Pillinger (29*) and Emma Walsingham (34*) seeing their side to their target inside 11 overs.

 

Lucy Forrester Smith, Stewart's Melville captain, said: "I think it's amazing, we've built really well throughout the season, and I'm just so proud of the girls.

 

"We fielded really well today, we showed good intent with the ball, we bowled at the stumps, and that produced good outcomes - its probably the best we've been in the field all season, it was really pleasing to see."

 

 

Earlier, Stewart's Melville defeated Grange to reach the final - restricting their opponents to 64-7, chasing down their target with eight wickets in hand.

 

For Watsonian/Dumfries, they were set an imposing 135 by West of Scotland - Robyn Marment striking an unbeaten 29 from 24 balls from the Hamilton Crescent side - but an unbroken 75 run partnership between Emily Tucker (34*) and Molly Paton (39*) saw their side to an eight wicket win.

 

But in the final between last year's winners, and this year's Women's Premier League winners, it was Stewart's Melville who came out on top to make it back-to-back cup successes.
