SCOTLAND BEATEN FOLLOWING BANGLADESH ONSLAUGHT
Scotland suffered a heavy 90 run defeat to Bangladesh, as their World Cup qualification hopes will go to the final day.
A brutal display with the bat saw Bangladesh post 191-5, led by their Captain Nigar Sultana Joty, who posted an unbeaten 56 from just 35 deliveries.
Openers Dilara Akter (39) and Juairiya Ferdous (22) combined to get their side off to a superb start, adding 67 in eight overs - before both fell in the space of three deliveries, to Katherine Fraser and Chloe Abel.
But it was Joty and Sobhana Mostary who took the game away from Scotland - coming together at 86-3 after 11 overs, and adding 100 runs from just 52 deliveries. The pair found the boundary 17 times, including five sixes, with Mostary striking at over 200 in her 23-ball 47.
Scotland's pursuit of 192 never got going, losing Darcey Carter to the first ball of the innings, whilst Kathryn Bryce was the only batter in the top five to reach double figures.
Marufa Akter (3-25) was outstanding with the new ball for Bangladesh, accounting for Carter, Kathryn Bryce and Ailsa Lister as Scotland were reduced to 35-5.
The Scots' lower-order showed some fight, as Priyanaz Chatterji (14), Megan McColl (20) and Pippa Sproul (27*) all made contributions to take their side to 101-9 - Sproul adding 23 alongside Olivia Bell (5*) for the final wicket.
Reflecting on the defeat, Kathryn Bryce said: "It wasn't brilliant from us today, we needed to bowl similarly to how we did the other day and didn't really execute, and they're a good side so they punished that.
"We just didn't manage to take wickets in that later middle phase, so they had momentum going into the death period, and they probably took that into the second innings as well.
"We've said all tournament that there are lots of teams playing really good cricket, and it's a bit of a dogfight, so it just makes it really simple. We just have to go out there and regroup in a couple of days, and go and win that match."
Scotland will face the USA on Sunday morning, knowing that a win will secure a spot at June's World Cup in England.
