Batting collapse sees Scotland falter against UAE

Scotland ended their Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series with defeat at the hands of UAE thanks to a collapse of 138/0 to 220/10.

Losing the toss and batting first, Matthew Cross (53) and Kyle Coetzer (95) shared a stunning first wicket partnership of 138 runs inside 28 overs to give fans around the world watching the stream a taste of Scotland’s batting ability at the top of the order.

UAE captain Ahmed Raza (1/43) struck the first blow to bowl Cross before Siddique (3/49) removed George Munsey – brought in at number three – with the score 156/2.

Dismissed five runs short of his century two overs later, Coetzer cut to Figy John to hand Meiyappan (2/39) his first wicket of the match.

Richie Berrington scored a rare duck to fall two balls later, with Scotland then losing the next six wickets for just 50 runs – Dylan Budge the next man to top score with 24 runs.

UAE raced away to reach 62/0 inside the eleventh over before Hamza Tahir (1/32) struck to send Vriitya Aravind back for 17.

Rotating seven bowlers, Scotland could only take two more wickets as Stu Whittingham (1/50) and Dylan Budge (1/21) dismissed Suru for 67 and Figy John 23 in defence of 221.

Basil Hameed (63*) and Muhammad Usman (36*) took the UAE side home, reaching 224/3 in the 44th over to win the ODI by seven wickets.
