Carlton win Beyond Boundaries T20 Scottish Cup Final to complete women’s league & cup double

Carlton CC completed the women’s league and cup double at beating West of Scotland in the final of the Beyond Boundaries T20 Scottish Women’s Cup at Dumfries CC by five wickets.

The Edinburgh side came through a semi-final against George Watson’s College comfortably earlier in the day to seal their place in the main event, bowling out the school side for 57, before chasing down their target in six overs with Abbi Aitken-Drummond top scoring on 34no having taken 4 for 5 in the first innings.

Earlier in the day, West of Scotland had an equally safe passage into the final, beating Grange by nine wickets. Grange, led by Scotland international Megan McColl, put on 107/7, including 62 from the all rounder. But West started the chase briskly and overhauled their target in 11 overs thanks to strong partnership from Ellen Watson (53no) and Charlton Dalton-Howells (31 no).

In the final, Carlton won the toss and elected to bowl first. They took two good early wickets as openers Nayma Shaikh and Ellen Watson fell in successive overs, leaving West 19/2 after 4 overs and the Glasgow side struggled to find their rhythm as they were bowled out for 72, with just Watson and Anne Sturgess making double figures.

Carlton lost the key wickets of Abbi Aitken-Drummond and Charis Scott early on, but proved to have too much depth as Zaara Dancu and Maisie Maceira saw them home in 11 overs.
