Hammad Azam blasted a brilliant century to carry RHC Lions through to the second round of the Citylets Scottish Cup.

The Pakistani pro’s knock of 105 acted as the launchpad for the Edinburgh outfit to post a total of 295 against Stoneywood-Dyce at Peoples Park.

Maid Haq was the ideal support act to Azam, but fell just three adrift of his half-ton.

It was a target proved too lofty for the hosts and they finished 85 short.

The outcome was some consolation for the Lions, who had been unhappy about being ordered by tournament organisers to return to Dyce a week after the original tie had been washed out.

Club officials will consider seeking compensation to cover their additional expenses.

Greenock’s hopes of a prolonged run in the competition hit the buffers at Glenmark, where Glenrothes came out on top by 47 runs.

Meanwhile, Arbroath will also consider making a complaint to Cricket Scotland after opponents Prestwick pulled out of their Lochlands tie at short notice.

An Arbroath source said: “They told us late on Saturday night that they were unable to raise a team.

“It seems as if they had a lot of players who were not prepared to commit to two matches over a weekend.”

Arbroath now take on West of Scotland, who easily brushed aside the challenge of Meigle in Perthshire, thanks mainly to 111 not out by Jon Fearn.

GHK cruised through at the expense of Glasgow Accies in the Anniesland derby.
