Citylets Scottish Cup Round Up

Perthshire minnows Meigle were unable to cash in on their second chance to become giant killers in the Citylets Scottish Cup.

Having been readmitted to the tournament following West of Scotland’s expulsion, in Round One they couldn’t cope with then skills and experience of Arbroath at Lochlands.

And it was perhaps fitting that South African Hayden Laing – whose family have been Meigle stalwarts for generations – was the destroyer-in-chief.

Laing thumped 80 not out as the hosts cruised to the 131 target in only 13.2 overs for the loss of only one wicket.

Holders Carlton accounted for Glenrothes at Gilvenbank. The capital men rattled up 232 for seven before disposing of the Fifers for 160.

Dylan Budge warmed up for Scotland’s ODI encounter with England by hammering 139 for Grange against Forfarshire at Raeburn Place.

Grange reached 321 for four – leaving Glens pursuing a tough rain-revised tally of 316 in 41 overs.

Another Scotland ace, Michael Leask responded with a brisk 88, but Shire crumbled to 238 all out.

Openers Gregor Preston-Jones and Michael English both notched centuries to pave the way for Ferguslie’s 31-run success against Clydesdale at Titwood.

Uddingston were too strong for Kelburne at Bothwell Castle Policies and Weirs easily brushed aside the challenge of GHK at Old Anniesland.

Stirling County lost to high-flying Heriot’s, as the visitors score of 217 would prove to be too much for County who were then bowled out for just 82.

East Kilbride v RHC Lions was also a weather victim.
