Cricket Scotland’s Tapeball League is ready to conclude its first year with a hotly anticipated Finals Day at Holyrood Sports Centre on the 18th of March.

The competition has included two leagues with over 170 players registered and brought together a diverse range of participants. It has also attracted new participants and lapsed players, with over 70% of players not part of regular cricket clubs.

The inaugural tournament has received excellent support and backing from local communities and leaders, including Councillor Graham and politician Anas Sarwar, which has helped boost the profile and visibility of the tournament. With a busy and successful year one nearly complete, with 44 matches having already been contested, we expect the interest and team entries to grow in the second edition.

The Finals Day promises to be an exciting occasion, and true to form and in-line with ethos of the league, it will be a celebration for the whole community. Cricket Scotland will be working in partnership with Active Life Club to deliver the day and ensure it`s as inclusive as possible. Ammar Ashraf, Cricket Scotland’s Community Engagement Officer commented:

“Great first year, some challenges but lots of rewards and great to see so many participants coming back to cricket! The future of cricket is looking good. We want to bring the community together under the “Spirit of Cricket” umbrella but also showcase why we are the most diverse sport. We also strive to “Inspire Scotland to play cricket”, and therefore, we will be celebrating International Women’s Day to coincide with the launch of Active Life’s BME Ladies cricket club.

And just for good measure, because we’re not busy enough, we will also be celebrating `The year of Young People`!  It will be a true celebration and there will be food for the public as well the usual, face painting, henna artist and a clown for the kids.”

Sunday 18th March – Semi Final and Finals day.  11:30am to 3:30 pm @ Holyrood Sports Centre – Govanhill, Glasgow.
