In March 2019, Cricket Scotland announced it had won the bid to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier from 31 August to 7 September 2019.

Today, Cricket Scotland can reveal Dundee and Angus as the tournament hosts with Arbroath United CC and Forfarshire CC staging 10 matches each.

Strathmore CC will act as a training venue across the tournament.

Featuring eight teams, the tournament is the final qualifier for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in Australia from 21 February – 8 March 2020. Two teams will progress to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup from the qualifier held in Dundee and Angus.

Scotland can expect to be joined by Bangladesh, Ireland, PNG, Thailand, USA and Zimbabwe. The final team to progress to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier will be either Netherlands or Germany. That result will be decided at the ICC Women’s Qualifier Europe 2019, taking place in Spain from 24 to 30 June.

Speaking of the tournament, Arbroath United CC commented: “We were all really excited to be asked to host this prestigious event. It is great for the Club and the town of Arbroath and recognises all the hard work that goes on and the facilities we have at Lochlands.

“Most importantly it is a wonderful opportunity to highlight women’s cricket which is getting stronger and stronger.

“We hope that this event will bring many visitors to the Club to see the talent on display and encourage girls to take up the sport.”

Forfarshire CC, also hosting the tournament, said: “Forfarshire Cricket Club are hugely honoured to be asked to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier at Forthill, Broughty Ferry.

“We have been working hard to develop our facilities in recent years and this is great reward for all of that hard work. We are very much hoping that this event will help us to further increase awareness of cricket throughout the Dundee and Angus area and we aim to engage with the local community to ensure this opportunity is maximised.

We have also recently launched a new women’s section and anticipate that this event will encourage more women and girls to take up the sport and become part of our women’s group. We are very much looking forward to welcoming teams from around the world and showing them some great Scottish hospitality!”

The schedule will see four group games (two T20Is at each venue, with one played in the morning and afternoon) each day on 31 August, 1 September and 3 September.

Two semi-finals and two plate semi-finals will be played on 5 September, before the finals on 7 September.

Fixtures will be confirmed once the eighth and final team is decided from the ICC Women’s Qualifier Europe 2019 in June.

Entry for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier fixtures will be free.

Malcolm Cannon, CEO of Cricket Scotland, said: “Cricket Scotland is delighted to be bringing international cricket to the Dundee and Angus area again, and both Forfarshire CC and Arbroath United CC have been a pleasure to work with in planning this historic event.

“The tournament, involving women’s sport of a very high quality, will enable fans to watch women’s cricket at its best and surely help to inspire young girls in the region to take up cricket.”
