Eastern Knights to host Edinburgh Rugby in Battle of the Capital

Eastern Knights, the Edinburgh-based team in the Tilney Regional series, will face Edinburgh Rugby in a charity T20 match at The Grange on Friday 26thJuly in the ‘Battle of the Capital’.

Supporting Heart of Scotland, Ronald McDonald House Charities and The Brain Tumour Charity, the event will see food and drink outlets pitch up at The Grange for a family-friendly event.

A Kids Zone will be in operation for the charity match, providing children the opportunity to try both cricket and rugby.

Stevie Gilmour, Head Coach of Eastern Knights, said: “We are really excited about hosting Edinburgh Rugby at The Grange in our first ever charity T20 event.

“Edinburgh’s finest cricket and rugby players will hopefully be putting on a great evening of entertaining cricket and we may even have a wee game of touch rugby to warm up!

“More importantly, we are hoping to raise some money for three fantastic charities in The Brain Tumour Charity, Heart of Scotland and Ronald McDonald House Charities that have a strong connection to both clubs.”

Duncan Hodge, Attack Coach for Edinburgh Rugby, commented: “Myself and many of the squad are keen cricketers so the chance to play against the Knights will be great fun, and it is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness and some money for some brilliant charities.

“I know the Edinburgh players included in the squad are really up for the match and hope they can do themselves justice!

“Simon Hickey has played to a very good level, while the South African boys think they can play! Hopefully we can provide some entertainment against a really talented Eastern Knights team.

“This match is all about having fun, but more importantly raising money. Hopefully plenty of supporters will come along, meet the players and get behind what is set to be a great evening of cricket.”

The event will be supported by popular Italian restaurant La Favorita Delivered.

A spokesperson commented: “La Favorita Delivered, part of the Vittoria Group of Restaurants, are proud to support The Eastern Knights. Please visit our mobile pizza unit at the ground and present your match day ticket to get a half price pizza for £5 – please note one pizza per ticket only and while stocks last.
