FORFARSHIRE LOOKING TO DEFEND SCOTTISH CUP CROWN AGAINST UDDINGSTON

Titwood in Glasgow is the venue on Sunday for the HF Group Men’s Scottish Cup Final, and defending champions Forfarshire CC will take on Uddingston CC at noon.

Eastern Premier League outfit Forfarshire have reached this stage by seeing off Renfrew, Watsonians, Heriot’s and Clydesdale and, in last year’s final, they defeated Ayr at Goldenacre.

Their squad is full of talented players led by international class players, including Scotland all-rounder Michael Leask and Scotland Women’s interim head coach Craig Wallace.

Forfs are looking to add to the Cup triumphs of 1968, 1994 and 2022 and skipper Scott Cameron said:  “We are really looking forward to Sunday and being back in with a chance of winning the Scottish Cup.

“It will be a tough game against a good club so we will need to be on top form. As always, we will be taking a lot of supporters with us so we will be looking to win it for them.”

Cameron mentioned that the Forfarshire fans will be travelling in their numbers to the big match from Broughty Ferry and, with the Uddingston supporters having a much shorter trip, they should be there en masse too to create a special atmosphere.

The Western Premiership One outfit have seen off Stenhousemuir, Stewart’s Melville, Ferguslie and Grange to get this far and they have won this trophy previously in 2003, 2010 and 2011.

Captain Bryan Clarke said:  “We’ve had a tough season and I guess are in transition at the minute, but we have improved as the season has gone on.

“We are delighted to be in the final as we’ve had a really tough draw to get here and we’ve saved our best performances for the Cup this year. The semi-final win over Grange was excellent, a real team performance with Ross Lyons scoring a fantastic 63 and giving us a total to defend.

“It’s 20 years since we won the Cup for the first time and then won it in consecutive seasons in 2010 and 2011. They were all great occasions for the club and this should be the same. As a club we are in good health so hopefully Sunday will be another great occasion for us.”

The final will be streamed live and will be available to watch on the Cricket Scotland YouTube channel as well as via the Cricket Scotland Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Men’s Challenge Cup Final between Morton and Edinburgh Academicals is taking place at Freuchie Park in Freuchie on the same day after last week’s fixture was postponed due to bad weather. This game is also at noon.
