Having lifted the Men’s T20 trophy last weekend at Stirling, Forfarshire CC claimed the double with a solidi performance yesterday at Goldenacre in beating Ayr CC by 90 runs.

Heriot’s CC were hosting the final for the first time and played their part in a fantastic day for the large travelling support from both sides at a sun-drenched Goldenacre.

Ayr won the toss and put Forfs into bat and got off to the perfect start as McElnea took the wicket of Wallace in the 2nd over. Forfs recovered and moved to 67, then after a mix up, Johnston was run out on 27 in the 19th. Forfs reached 100 in the 26th before Leask was bowled by Flack on 21.

The match felt in the balance in the 27th when Tahir dismissed Garden after a fine catch from English, however it was Forfs who finished the innings strongly with O’Neil (52) and Cameron (76) pushing their total to 254.

English and McElnea opened the chase for Ayr and made 35 before Garden caught McElnea off Bailwal in the 11th. Forfs bowling attack then started to fire with English and Flack both being caught in the 12th off Allchin.

Ayr struggled with any momentum and although Grobler continued the chase for Ayr reaching 75 off 99 balls before, the 43rd over proved fatal for them losing Grobler, Walsh and Baines as Cameron picked up three wickets in four balls.

As the sun set on the Edinburgh festival and the Scottish domestic season, Forfarshire lifted the cup as deserved champions.
