Highlanders complete double in T20 Blitz

Lizzie Sleet @CricketScotland

The race for T20 Blitz glory is set to go down to the wire after the Caley Highlanders cashed in on home advantage in their crucial double-header at Forthill.

Player-coach Kyle Coetzer returned to the fray – and played a major part in their triumph Western Warriors after they had easily snuffed out the challenge of Eastern Knights.

The outcome means the title will be up for grabs in the third and final series in Edinburgh.

Highlanders had to overcome a dose of the jitters before getting into their stride.

They lost Chris Venske and Coetzer early in their pursuit of 120.

The recovery was mounted by Craig Wallace and Chris Greaves, whose efforts paved the way for the six-wicket win in the 16th over.

Wallace and Coetzer then combined in a half-century opening stand to put the Warriors on the back foot.

Coetzer perished for a fine 80 in the penultimate over as his side reached 156 for four.

Warriors lost wickets at regular intervals, and despite some lusty hitting down the order, they were all out for 145 with three deliveries left.
